{Wedding Couture} | Bollywood Infusion

Not a “tradition or custom” today.  Focus is on Fusion for today’s Cultural Couture post!

A time-honored tradition in most Indian weddings is the dance performed by the couple’s sisters/brothers-friends-cousins.  It’s safe to say that at some point of every Indian’s life, he or she will dance at some wedding (and having avoided it for 26 years, my time has finally come.  Egads).

The dances usually look something like this:

Lately, this tradition has gone mainstream, and non-desi Bollywoodaholics are bringing this tradition to their own nuptials:

Slumdog Fever apparently hit the American wedding circuit and never left.  It warms my heart to see Bollywood go bridal.  However, my beloved Bollywood-loving couples, there are many other songs that are perfect for a filmi moment than Jai Ho (a once-beloved song that now ranks high on the overplayed list).  Here are my favorites:

  1. Dance Pe Chance
  2. Jogi Mahi
  3. Desi Girl
  4. Salaam-E-Ishq
  5. Nachle
  6. Nachna Onda Nei
  7. Aahun Aahun (Remix)
  8. Dhoom Taana
  9. Jee Karda

{Bridal Couture} | Rosa Clara Designer Gowns

Our friends at Wedding Inspirasi are always on the edge of something beautiful. I caught a recent glimpse of their coverage on Rosa Clará’s Barcelona Couture gowns and fell in love (nothing new!). You can always check out their inspiration here, and for the moment, glimpse at our top 15!

We have been anticipating Rosa Clará 2011 bridal collection ever since the day we laid eyes on Mischa Barton in a beautiful silk organza and tulle tiered strapless gown (Erika, above) at a fitting for Barcelona Bridal Week. “For 2011, Rosa Clará is presenting two great lines: one inspired by the start of the 20th century, in Art Nouveau.” And we’re not disappointed because the collection is simply beautiful.

Clará’s collection is nothing short of spectacular, with a little something for everyone. Be it a structured satin and silk tulle drop waist ballgown like Erol . . .

. . . the stunning silk organza gown, Elsam which Mischa Barton wore on the Bridal Week runway. . .

. . . or Escocia, in satin and silk tulle with bows at shoulder and waist.

Ethereal and classic seem to pair well for Clará’s collection, but she was sure to include a stunning mermaid silhouette with Edith, a lace and bead-embellished bridal gown.

If you’re a ruffles kinda girl, and I don’t mean with ridges, check out Elda. A dot and embroidered-silk lace strapless gown you’ll need to get up close and personal with.

For brides looking for something less frou frou there’s a selection of elegant, drapey sheaths, such as the Estilo gauze wedding dress and Emocion silk gauze gown with one of my personal favorites, a bead-embellished detail along the neck.

Grecian goddesses take note, Emery, a one-shoulder silk crepe gown and Espiga, a gauze dress with lace accent around the waist are perfect for your next stroll through Olympus.

And for something totally different, Esplendor, a bead-embellished gown with an Art Deco vibe.

For ballerina brides — ballet length wedding dresses, Epico, a satin and silk tulle gown and Erudito, a cotton satin, lace and organza dress with sweetheart neckline and tiered skirt. Adorable!

Edurne organza gown, worn with long lace bridal coat, giving a look reminiscent of a modern kebaya.

I’m a big fan. Be sure to leave us your comments! I’d love to hear what you think of her spectrum of dresses. One thing is for certain, their isn’t just one type of dress she does best.

{Wedding Couture} | Getting Organized . . . Super Organized!

So if you’ve checked out our special report for Couture Brides, you know just how important it is to get and be organized if you want to create a spectacular and unforgettable wedding. There are so many fantastic organizers available; it can often be frustrating to pick the best. Have no fear, dear bride, you can’t go wrong, as long as you pick one that suits your style and one that you like. For the do-it-yourself bride, I do have “suggestions.” Here is one I really like.

If you can relate to the Princess and the Pea story, have ever been referred to as a perfectionist or perhaps even a control freak this is for you! When perusing Henri Bendel in New York I stumbled on what I think is the absolute best of the best in wedding organizers. Russell+hazel makes all kinds of great tools for organizing your life and their wedding organizer is no exception! Their planner offers different color and design options from which to choose and you can download free wedding “worksheet” templates from www.russellandhazel.com. The website offers a wedding timeline checklist; a wedding gown and accessories order worksheet, a wedding party contact list, a vendor contact list, budget worksheet, day of wedding checklist, and many more to choose from.

Go to www.russellandhazel.com or Henri Bendel in New York and check it out for yourself, I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do!

{Reception Couture} | Fabulous Wedding Party Idea

This is such a cute idea! Especially if you are having a vintage style or themed wedding, what better way to entertain your guest than to give them their own silhouette? I am in love with this idea and it would well for anyone as a favor or pure entertainment. Similar to caricatures drawings, but on a very elegant level, courtesy of our friends at DailyCandy.com.

Virginia Rose can cut a silhouette of your guests’ pretty punims before you can say “profile.” And the results make perfect favors that friends will cherish for years to come.
