Organic Elegance – Inuit Imagination

Continuing my imaginative inspiration from last week’s opening ceremonies, I created two neutral color board, which if you know me, it a bit more of a challenge. I love, love, love color. Take the color away and I am left with a neutral palate that I am still mastering. So here’s a glimpse at the more subtle earthly combinations. With a splash of color – but it’s really in the mix – check out the First Nation’s logo!

While the images are beautiful, I cannot forget to share with you cultural knowledge within the boards. The rock formations, which you’ve seen on as the template for the Vancouver Olympic Games, draw their history from the aboriginal inhabitants of Canada. These people-like figures of rock are called Inukshuk. The Inukshuk, which means “likeness of person,” was first used by the Inuit People to mark trails, indicate caches of food, and locate nearby settlements as well as good places to hunt or fish. Most of the Canadian arctic is dominated year round by permafrost and only has a few natural landmarks which could be used for orientation, that’s why Inukshuk are used as directional marker.

The rock Inukshuk embodies the spirit and persistence of the Inuit who live and flourish in Northern Canada, one of the world harshest environments. Inukshuk’s represent strength, leadership and motivation. The Inukshuk makes a fantastic favor as a homage to the First Nation people of Canada.

A Girls Best Friend

No, I’m not talking about diamonds, though I originally planned to add them to this collection of images. However, my spark of imagination for today grows from the beautiful cacao plant! Yes, my imagination is brimming with Chocolate and my favorite chocolate treats!

For Valentine’s Day weekend, I wanted to deliver the biggest box of chocolate to all my readers, without the calories. So enjoy! But beware, this is a very decadent and sweet imagination, so Death by Chocolate is possible. Grab a latte, and partake with care.

We would live in chocolate if we could – right ladies! But the ultimate dream melts, breaks, and gets eaten by women and children alike! So Death by Cocoa is chocolate from every side – dark, milk and white!

One of my favorite flavor combinations is dark chocolate and citrus. I love the sharp bite of a sour fruit mingled with the ribbon texture of bitter dark chocolate. No Hershey’s or Godiva for this girl. I want the real deal – 100% dark chocolate to infuse my taste buds. Translating that sharp contrast was a lot of fun.

What would chocolate be without a sweet partner like oranges. Another delightful flavor palette and an equally delightful color palette for our Chocolate Orange Twist Imagination Board.

And while White Chocolate is really not chocolate at all (check out the definition), I found a collection of amazing bridal dresses by Scott Corridan
entitled White Chocolate Label. For the girl after my heart, you can wrap yourself in Chocolate – white chocolate that is!

12 Days of Christmas ~ Partridge in a Pear Tree

“On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, a Partridge in a Pear Tree.”

There are both religious and secular interpretations of the song and I will give you both when I have it.  I will also share with you interesting customs from around the world associated with the particular day.

The Partridge in a Pear Tree is believed to represents the courage and devotion of Christ dying for his people. A mother partridge will lure predators away from her chicks, even sacrificing her life for them. The pear tree symbolizes the wooden cross upon which Jesus died.

More interesting and surprising sexual interpretations?

One tradition for some on Twelfth Night is to go around wassailing fruit trees as a kind of fertility rite.  Exactly how this is done had varied from century to century. But, in the 18th century (when the song was created) wassailing was done by pouring cider, honey, spices and pulp from a burst baked apple (all mixed in a bowl) around the trees.  The term “Wassail” is taken from the waes hael meaning “be whole” (aka be in good health).

Another folklore claims that a young maiden was suppose to walk backwards around a pear tree three times on Christmas morning.  Then she gazes into the branches. She should see the image of her future husband.

Fertility and sexuality have often been represented by fruits for centuries. The apple represents the female (perhaps going all the way back to the Garden of Eden?).  The pear is supposed to represent the male.  The male partridge is also well-known for being a lusty suitor, very fertile, and producing a lot of off-spring. (Along the same lines as the rabbit does today.) Therefore, the “partridge in a pear tree” symbolizes to some a very suggestive sexual symbolism!

In England, the red-legged partridge was commonly known to sit in pear trees. This bird was not introduced to England from France until the late 1770′s. Since the verse is earlier than that time, this is why many believe the song originates from France.

Vera Wang Trunk Show at Maria’s Bridal Couture

Recently I stopped by Maria’s Bridal Couture in West Bloomfield to catch up on what is happening during the slow season. Since recently closing the Maria’s Bridal in downtown Rochester, Nadica was busy trying to gather and redistribute the items in that store into the new one.  At the same time she was preparing for a Vera Wang Trunk Show.  The trunk show was this last weekend.  Orchard Lake Mall, which is were the new bridal store is located, decided to put on an event called All Things Wedding during this last weekend as well.  I haven’t been able to check in yet, but I am sure they had a good deal of traffic.

I decided, with the Trunk Show and the All Things Wedding event, it was a good time to do some extra advertising.  After searching around, I found a great deal on print your own invitations at Michael’s and went to town designing an elegant advertisement for this weekend.

“Invitations” introduced Full Circle Eventi to the West Bloomfield market in writing:

All the items had to be printed separately and then assembled.  The kit came with the sleeve, the invitation card, and the response card, which  I used for the coupon.  Chocolate and Ivory Bride’s Laser Cut  invitations created an elegant statement with the purple accent printing.

Close up on the “Invitation” wording.  Very similar to intro page of the website.

Added bonus for Maria’s Bridal Couture clients.  Referral from the bridal store is getting them a huge 30% discount on any wedding planning packages.  That is an awesome saving!

While simple,  I think they came out well.
