I am tickled pink to be sharing this wedding with you. Well, for the moment, it’s more like orange (can you be tickled orange?), but there are some absolutely fabulous images from the October 16th wedding ceremony at the art deco Guardian Building in downtown Detroit. From the moment guest arrived by shuttle to the historic building, visual sensory was set to overload. If you’re a lover of architecture, as the groom was, the building façade is enough to set your heart fluttering. But walking into the lobby is absolutely breathtaking, with the ornate mosaic ceiling, staircase, a large ornate metal gate and polished granite and marble.
After gawking at the lobby, guest were greeted by courteous elevator operators to escort them to the 32nd floor of the prestigious building for the ceremony.
From the planner: We wanted to incorporate an old world feeling to the day. Taking from the design and historic structure of the 30s Art Deco period of the building and of course the groom’s love for art and Art Deco to be specific. Since there was another wedding in the lobby that day, we wanted to make the guest feel extra special and find a unique way to make sure they didn’t get lost. Since the security access was required to get to the ceremony location, I wanted to find a better way to get guest to the location. Out of that came the elevator operators. We found the perfect costumes for our models from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival to fit the theme and give the guys the official look. The bride and groom just raved about them after the wedding, and their guest did too.
The 32nd floor, otherwise known as the Guardian Club, retains its historic architecture, bright colors and bold geometric patterns that keep the feel of the original building level. The couple wanted their guest to enjoy the artistic flair of the room as well as the beautiful skyline view of Detroit and Windsor, Ontario. To soften the room and create a more elegant appeal, we hired a team to create a soft wave above the custom runner (from the Original Runner Company), and cascade down behind the couples Persian Sofreh Aghd table in ivory and crystals.
The ceremony was a blended Italian-Persian wedding, and as is customary in Persian weddings, guests were seated with the bride’s guest on the left and the groom’s on the right (opposite of American weddings). The lush chair covers in Ivory were made for Melody and Paul’s ceremony by Wildflower Linens and shipped in from Los Angeles. They added an extra level of luxe and softness to an otherwise conference room setting.
We created a lush Persian spread including all the traditional items, including a custom made “Sini-ye Aatel-O-Baatel”, or the seven spices tray, designed in the shape of their signature “V”. If the table wasn’t already to die for in detail, the Corrina, of Petit Fleur, created stunning arrangements to compliment the gold, orange, yellow and green tones in the room. The arrangements included Orange Moccara Orchids, High Magic and Star 2000 Roses, Pittosporum, Orange Pin Cushion Proteas.
The bride’s sister (MOH) and bridesmaid held the Ghand cloth over the couples head during their vows. Guest were treated to the scrumptious traditional Persian delights while the couple and witnesses signed the marriage certificate, including “Noghl” (Sugar coated almond strips), Baklava (a sweet flaky Persian pastry “Baaghlavaa”), “Tout” (Mulberry-almond paste made in the shape of mulberries), “Noon-Berenji” (Rice-flour cookies), “Noon-Nokhodchi” (Chickpea-flour cookies), “Noon-Baadoomi” (Almond-flour cookies), and “Sohaan A’sali” (Honey roasted almonds). The couple substituted the candle ceremony with a sand ceremony, selecting beautiful sand from Sandsational Sparkle to fill their Waterford Crystal vase.
From the designer: The entire event turned out as planned. It married the old world and the modern world into a beautiful Persian ceremony, conducted by my dear friend Nicole of A Simple I Do. She crafted a civil Persian ceremony for the couple, which the family was absolutely delighted with.
We think it turned out amazingly as well. Absolutely GORGEOUS, if we do say so. I can’t wait to show you the reception!
