As promised, here is the last bit of details. It’s chalk full, so its a bit long…enjoy!
So now it’s time to truly be “tickled pink!” And it all began with the bride’s very clear color theme from the moment she walked into Papyrus to order her couture watermelon and black invitations.
Guest caught a glimpse of the signature “V” married into many of the details of the design from coordinating invitation inclusions to the custom made gobos in the lighting décor. I worked closely with the staff at Papyrus to ensure all the details of the invitations were accounted. To include the groom’s Italian heritage, we updated the response card from French “RESPONDEZ”
to Italian “RESPONSI.” I also worked with the team at Wedding Mappers to design the wedding maps for the couple’s invitations.
Returning via shuttles from the Guardian Building, guests arrived at the Detroit Institute of Arts through the main entrance and were guided through the modern galleries by art experts into the Rivera Court. Scattered cocktail tables in various heights covered with striking black and white geometric linens, from Chair Covers and Linens, ensure plenty of room for guest to enjoy hand passed and strolled hors d’oeurves and cocktails while waiting for access to the Great Hall for dinner. Guests were delighted with these beautiful tables strolling through the hall to deliver assorted appetizers.
Entertainment for the bride and groom as well as their guests was top priority. Shutterbooth started the night off with the strolling tables in the Rivera Court. Guest walked away with memorable photo strips of their night (where the “V” popped up again!). The DJ, The Panache Group, entertained the guest in true cocktail lounge style.
Guests were certainly tickled pink when the grand curtains opened to the transformed Great Hall of the Detroit Institute of Arts for dinner. Welcomed by the sounds Dr. James Lent “tickling the ivory” with the groom’s Ragtime requests, awestruck guests found their seats in the beautiful pink, black and white landscape. An 80 ft hand-painted white, hot pink, and black runner guided guest from the entry way to the cake and head table along the wings of the double “V” shaped room layout. A soft and subtle amber paisley glow graced the ceilings of the great hall, further softening the atmosphere of the great marble room.
The head table was set up at the far end of the room in a captain setting, allowing all guest to get a great view of the bride and groom during their grand entrance. Hand-sewn white with whimsical black flower appliqué linens were the focal point of the head table. To accommodate for the lack of high arrangement on the head table (for fear of obstructed views and photo ops) Corrina, of Petit Fleur, created 2 solid 6 ft rose beds each of 1,000 hot pink and red roses, per the bride’s vision. I also created a specialty cake table linen for the couple that inversed the colors of their head table linens, black with whimsical black flower appliqué. Perched beautifully on the table sat the scrumptious layers of Sweet & Savory Bake Shop’s marble cake with cappuccino and white chocolate filling, chocolate with white chocolate filling and white cake with raspberry filling. The 5 layer (the second tier down was a double layer) cake married the bride’s modern pink black and white décor with the groom’s Art Deco essence beautifully. The delicate sugar flowers topped it all off.
Guest were seated in one of 4 wings of the double “V” structure. Each wing of the two “V” incorporated 12 tables, paired in 2s for a grand 46 ft table scape. Down the center of the white Duchess Satin linen tables, ran a beautiful custom designed black ruffle organza runners, topped with 10,000 roses, 1,200 hydrangea, 300 stems of orchids in an assortment of arrangements.
Mirroring the table length lay 6 ft clusters of hot pink hydrangeas, red and hot pink Roses and hot pink Cymbidium Orchids. Petit Fleur designed 24-6 ft sections broken up by the tall 24’ trumpet vase topiaries of 300 red and hot pink roses. Each 6 ft section weighed in at 100 lbs and the topiaries at 60 lbs a piece. The entire look was polished off with hanging crystal garlands from the topiaries and rhinestone encrusted candle and votive holder. The images are absolutely breath taking! (Read more from the florist here.)
You can see in the background, the “V” popped up again:)
The china chosen for the event, again looked to marry the bride’s vibrancy in the solid black stemware and hot pink paisley cocktail plates, perched on the groom’s Art Deco style mosaic glass and mirror chargers. Elegant flatware and fine china rimmed in a delicate silver pattern completed the look from Special Events Rentals. Nestled onto the plates, rosettes of satin napkins were held together by hot pink pin details.
We created black and white boxes to hold the menu card and list of evening events for each guest. The box, accented with pink ribbon, hung from each guest’s dressed up black chiavari chair. Hershey kisses and a bombardier of Jordan almonds also waited within. Special activity cards with crayons were singled out for all guests under the age of 12.
Finally, on the seats, guest found a personalized favor from the bride and groom featuring the bride’s favorite treat—S’mores. The bride, groom and their families spent days creating these custom make your own s’mores kits, including marshmallows on sticks, graham cracker, chocolate, a tea light, personalized match books and a D.I.Y. instructional cultivating in this beautiful shot of the bride’s ring from their engagement session. Sooo, damn cute! (and completely personal!)
While the guest enjoyed their delicious dinner and dessert, my team and I turned our focus back to the Rivera Court, where things were taking a different shape. We brought in numerous pieces in black and white to create our 40’s style lounge for the dancing portion of the evening.
The team from The Lighting Guy enhanced the lighting to a bold and vibrant shade of pink, while the lounge furniture created the right atmosphere for the evening entertainment. Guest were able to stroll the nearby galleries of the museum while others took to the photo booth, grabbed a quick shot with the photographers, or indulged in the sweet treats of the Candy Girls.
One of the most touching moments of the evening came as the bride’s younger sister, and maid of honor, serenaded the couple in lieu of a traditional first dance.
(In case you’re wondering, no, the bride did not toss her 10 lb bouquet, for fear of killing someone by the sheer weight on impact. LOL)
Guest danced the night away to a mix of Persian and American music from Panache. From the looks of it, everyone had a great time!
This was an amazing 10 week wedding process. From start to finish, it was an absolute delight to work and design for the couple. Thanks again to the entire crew of vendors who helped us create this immaculate creation of pink, black, and white. Great clients and great vendor always make for fabulous weddings, and we are all so blessed to have worked with Melody and Paul.
Congratulations, Melody and Paul!
