{Design & Idea Couture} | Hot & Sexy Candy Tables

You might be asking yourself right now, “Has Lia lost her mind?  Candy tables are square and boxy; there is nothing sexy without curves!”  Read on ladies for the newest and hottest trend to hit the sweet tooth table!

We are all about bringing you things that are fun and super fantastic. Candy tables are no exception. Be they simply designed or elaborate overkill structures, guests absolutely become kids again, when they hit the candy buffet.

Of course there are no rules to setting it up, but we’ve given you a few helpful hints on the D.I.Y. Candyland creations. For our most recent wedding, however, we took candy delight to the next level. Sure guest can stroll over to a table, pick up a goodie bag and fill it to the brim, but what if the table comes to you?

With the inclusion of our 40s style lounge reception at the Detroit Institute of Arts, we introduced what is sure to become the latest craze…CANDY GIRLS! Yes, instead of the guest strolling over to pick up a sugar rush, the rush was delivered to them, a la 1940′s Cigarette Girls.

The girls were a super hit with all the guest, being caught in numerous guest photos. Some guest even roped the girls into the photo booth (thanks Shutterbooth for the images above and below!). The girls strolled the night in their custom costumes designed by the fabulous team at Screaming Queens Entertainment.

I think they looked absolutely fab, don’t you!

If you’re really ambitious, you might even think of delivering your sweet treats on a true strolling table (email us to help out).

So the next time you’re looking to bring that extra star treatment to your event, dump the candy buffet, and doll it up, baby!

{Cultural Couture} | Intercultural Weddings, Traditions and Customs

I recently came across this very interesting group of videos from VideoJug on multiculturalism in the US. Manners, body language, wedding customs or traditions are covered topics. Here’s a segment on Customs and Wedding Traditions, covering various cultures around the world. My favorite, of course, is talking about customs that cross cultural boundaries, but I wish they had covered more, as there are so many.

Enjoy!

{Bridal Couture} | Romona Keveza Bridal Collection – Fall 2011

When it comes to “to-die-for” bridal gowns, Romona Keveza‘s latest bridal line is certainly no exception, in fact, she might be the rule!

I agree with Alison of The Knotty Bride, that the most endearing part of Romona “is that she doesn’t stray from what she does so well.  She’s not interested in being avant-garde; her aesthetic is and has always been clean lines, form-hugging feminine silhouettes, the loveliest, richest and softest materials imaginable, and painstaking attention to detail.”  In fact, I read from Alison, that one of the dresses in her couture line took 200 HOURS TO CRAFT!

Romona’s color options are also delicate and perfect. With options in Tiffany blue, pearl, ivory, blush and in some cases, black… the bride’s biggest problem is deciding which of those stunning colors to choose!

I love the detail and delicate lace detailing to these next two. The short one in white would be perfect in black for any cocktail affair!

Romona has mastered the art of ruffles! Definitely not the easiest thing to put to a dress. Yes, they are girlie, feminine, and beautiful, but they are not easy to master. Extra layers of material on any area of a woman’s silhouette is not exactly welcomed by the body conscious bride. But Ms. Keveza, along with only the most adept designers, is capable of infusing them in a way that doesn’t add inches to a gal’s waist.

The inspiration behind RK’s Legends collection was the Jackie Kennedy of the 1960′s, while Couture’s was, of course, Audrey Hepburn’s portrayal of Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffanys.  Classic. Elegant. Timeless. Effortless. The way all dresses should be!

Many thanks to Martha Stewart Weddings and Project Wedding for these gorgeous captures.

{Design Couture} | Cultural Head Turning Cake Toppers

Ok, so let me start with saying how much I despise cake toppers. And I know I’m not the only one. I remember watching an episode of My Fair Weddings with David Tutera, who said the exact same thing. BUT, in the case of these FABULOUS little cake decors, I might make an exception. Hey, there is always an exception to the rule…

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I am so happy to have friends like Fri of Wedding Nouveau, who are constantly looking for the latest and greatest for my cultural clients! I’m so excited that she is on the verge of launching a wedding magazine catering to multi-ethnic weddings! It’s going to be absolutely fantastic and a well needed addition to the wedding industry. I’m also honored that she’s asked to me to contribute to the magazine from time to time. Honored and challenged!

Fri introduced me to these fabulous little creatures of creativity for your wedding cake, and I agree, she’s on to something here…we need more options (if we allow cake toppers at all!).

The quest to find cute cake toppers for multi ethnic couples continues.  After my initial disappointment in trying to find interracial cake toppers, it’s become apparent that there need to be more companies that cater to multi-ethnic couples in terms of fun, fresh, original and pretty designs.  By that, I mean, enough with the porcelain already!  Don’t get me wrong, there are a few that offer creative paper cake toppers and more, but overall…it’s pretty sparse out there for intercultural couples….

…That is until I found hope:  Sarah Neuburger of The Small Object, is turning heads with her custom made and “slap-me-they’re-so-adorable” cake toppers.

Because couples cover a wide range of possible unions, Do-it-yourself style or custom made designs would definitely be the way to go.  Start with a clean palette, say wood, and add on the unique and exciting intricacies that define your couple.  From fashion, and hobbies to just saying:”We just want to have fun.”

And the best part is you can do it yourself.

Personally I’m a big fan of incorporating the entire family…even if it is just you and the dogs, the can custom create them for your topper as well!

So the jury is out…maybe cake toppers aren’t all that bad, if they are done with a little couture flair!
