And if you’re not the bride, you may still find your stunning inspiration!  Bridesmaids, mother of the bride or groom, or just a guest, you can look inspired by the stars and glow at your next big event!!

So ladies, there you have it! What do you think? Can you handle that on your wedding day, or would you rather leave it to the professionals? Either way, it can be done and you can do it with a little help from the MakeupAdikt – Asma! Make sure to find her on Facebook and YouTube!

Bridal Sutra | Find your Perfect Lehenga Style!

I found another great resource for your desi’s this weekend. Wedding Sutra is a fabulous website chalk full of tips and ideas while planning your big fat South Asian wedding. I just loved these tips on selecting your Lehenga and wanted to share them with you! Enjoy!

Color is one of the most important elements in your wardrobe and the choice of the right color can make it work for you showing off your complexion to advantage.

For
Fair skin
If you are fair, you can usually carry off almost any color. You will look especially great with soft pastels and mid-tones. Peach, lilac, pinks, aqua, soft greens and medium range blues etc. are all good choices. Avoid too-dark colors; they might make you look pale.

If pink undertones to your skin, your evening colors: deep navy and sapphire blue with silver accents. And deep pine/hunter green with pale gold accents. Your morning colors would be crème gold with gold and copper accents.

If pale undertones to your skin, your evening colors: deep magenta (not shocking pink) with tonal accents, burgundy with matte gold accents. Your morning colors would be pearl with silver accents.

If you are very fair, avoid very pale or pastel colors, for they can wash out fair skin.

For
Wheatish skin
With that golden skin you can’t go wrong with rich jewel tones. Emerald green, ruby red, bright orange, rust, turquoise and navy blue were made for you. Not to forget, the basic black and white.

For golden undertones, the morning and evening colors: rich ochre/mustard with antique gold accents, deep saffron orange with copper accents, deep royal/ink blue with tonal or silver accents.

For olive undertones, the colors: rich maroon with gold accents, emerald green with pale gold accents, copper with copper accents.

Very pale or pastel colors can make tanned skin appear darker unless selected precisely to compliment the skin undertone.

For Dusky skin
One way to play up that gorgeous chocolate skin is to wear bright colors. Sunshine yellow, bright orange, warm red, magenta and bright blue should look great on you. Beige, taupe and white are also go

Wedding Couture | Melting Pot – Borrowing from Cultures

Borrowing from cultures

There are certain wedding traditions that are popular worldwide—even if we don’t know where they originate from. For example, throwing rice and white wedding dresses are traditional wedding fare. However both of these traditions started with cultural ties.

With the world shrinking and ethnicities merging, new and revitalized traditions are being adopted across the board. Brides and grooms are reaching back into their heritage and rediscovering age-old cultural traditions for their own weddings. Some wedding traditions are adopted for their quirkiness or symbolism alone.

African American
One of the most popular cultural wedding trends is jumping the broom, which is a symbolic way to “jump” into marriage with both feet. It originated with Africans and is not associated with slavery, as some have come to believe. A figurative display, it can be adopted by any couple.

Asian
Red is a lucky color for the Chinese so lobster is often served for just that reason. These Red Takeout Box Favors are also fun options. Each red box includes 2 tasty fortune cookies inside and a pair of chopsticks.

Greek
Greek weddings are notoriously boisterous and fun. Greek brides will carry a lump of sugar down the aisle with her, insuring that her marriage will be sweet. The “Circle Dance” and “Money Dance” (often called Dollar Dance) both originate with the Greek culture.

Hispanic
Let the kids at your wedding have some fun too with a traditional Piñata. Piñatas are not just for birthdays. They have been enjoyed for years at Hispanic wedding celebrations.

Indian
This is a tradition that many a bride will want to join in on. Mendhi parties are traditional events, where elaborate and intricate henna designs are applied to the bride-to-be’s hands and feet. The newly decorated bride is often exempt from traditional housework until her mendhi wears off!

Irish
As tradition would have it, the Irish are concerned with luck. The bride should wear a penny in her shoe for luck and she can carry an upturned horseshoe into church for a double dose of luck.

Scottish
Symbolizing the joining of two families, the Scots tie two strips of the family tartan together. It makes for a unique alternative to a unity candle.

Do you need to be part of the culture to adopt any of these unique wedding traditions? Absolutely not! But it might be wise to explain the traditions and its meaning in a program or audibly.

Cultural Celebration | Sangeet/Garba Entertainment

Last week NACE Detroit Chapter (National Association of Catering Executives) held a fantastic meeting highlighting the beauty and richness of Jewish and Indian Weddings. The fabulous event was hosted MPE Events in Livonia Michigan in addition to showing us their beautiful crystal mandap. The night included delicious food catered by Pryia (Famington Hills and Troy), music by DJ ICE Productions, decor by Mandavo and a panel of experts to talk about these cultural delights. One word that continually came up during the panel’s discussion of Indian weddings was “colorful.” South Asian wedding in general are much more colorful in the literal sense as well as a figurative sense. South Asian cultures embrace color in all décor from flowers to linens, to mandap and mehendi decorations! That is why I personally am endeared to these weddings much more than the average Western wedding.

(I have a picture from the event, but I can’t find it, so I’ll have to post it later)

Another area in which the desi bride delights her guest is in the entertainment throughout her events, a more figurative use of the word color! Be it the garba/sangeet, the reception, mehendi party or any other event, dance finds a prominent role to the amusement of all guest. Here is a great clip I found to show you what I’m talking about!

Hope you enjoyed that as much as I did!
